Yeah it's pretty special. It's my sanctuary. Especially when my computer is broken.

Pretty much. I'm waiting for the guy to email me tonight about my computer. He should tell me what is wrong and what I need to get.

I'm gonna be getting my motherboard RMA'd (needed it anyways, with the squealing). I'm also going to be getting a 750GB hard drive to replace the 2 250 GB's that got shot (not literally Rolling Eyes ). The hard drive should be in before the RMA probably, this is taken longer than I expected. I shouldn't make promises I can't keep, but I'm hoping that it should be back in a week.

i know double post be quiet

i made an xps and it cost 1900$ compared to the 1700$ alienware but (the xps) it had 250gb more hard drive, 1 more gb of memory a headset, a bigger screen and a much better processor, so which would be better?
now im thinking the xps cause the extra stuff for only 200$more and i really liked getting the extra gb of RAM cause of vista

i know im not getting one now and wont for a while but it would be nice to know the better choice (the alienware has a cooler case Very Happy )

EDIT: the xps also came with a 1 year longer warrenty and wireless so i could connect to internet (linksys) plus a surge protector

with both i would get my own keyboard and mouse plus speakers seperate from the computer

Get the XPS, Alienware is overrated unless you were able to spend the $3000 that you have.

My friend had asked me to build him a computer. I agreed and here's what I pulled up for him. His budget is not yet defined, but its somewhere around $900-1400. I'd like to know if anybody knows of something better for the money, or something that would cut back on the price without losing too much performance.

GIGABYTE P35 Intel Motherboard $169.99
Intel C2D E6750 2.66GHz (Might oc, his decision) $189.99
EVGA 8800GT 512mb $259.99
OCZ 2GB(2 x 1gb)) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) $99.99
Samsung SpinPoint 500gb 7,200RPM SATA HDD $109.99
Samsung 20X DVD+RW DL Burner SATA $30.99
MushKin 650W Modular PSU $124.99
AC Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Heatsink $21.99
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit $218.99

Final Cost $1,226.91
S&H is probably about $35

Suppose I can drop the modular cabling, just wanted to be organized since it’s not my case. Smile
And I wanted to add a 10k RPM Raptor, but looking at it, there was no place for one in the budget. Sad

If I’m right, this should play most games fairly well, and Crysis on all Highs(Not Very High) with a decent fps.

Well, I just ordered a new 750watt Psu to handle 4 LED Blue 120mm fans and a 200mm fan. And with that i'm gonna overclock my new Dual-Core Cpu and over-overclock my Video Card, then we'll see who can play Vegas at 80fps Sam and Shock. Wink

Yeah, Blu spent $100 on an entirely unneccessary case, just because it had six blue led fans. I don't care what anybody says, he doesn't need 6 fans running for his type of hardware, then he's probably going with a simple stock fan which'll just wind up being even more pointless for the ventilation. Blu, you just spent an unneccessary amount of money for a cpu that wasn't even bottlenecking your gpu in the first place.

Although its probably true that improving your video card would be less of an increase of performance, I'll give you that. The least you could have done instead is add additional memory. Unless this is your preparation to begin overclocking everything. Which I recommend not just playing around with the clocks and voltages. Do more than just a little of research. Know what you're doing and what signs your computer will give you if theres an issue.

And, furthermore, do not overclock anything without realizing and accepting that the component may go out. Even if done correctly, not every item made is 100% the same, or perfectly engineered.

And, do not buy cheap hardware if you're doing so. Better hardware will give you more range, more room for error, and better ways to manage this stuff. Not to mention, better manufacturers give you lifetime warrenties. If you had an EVGA card, registered it, and it burns out from overclocking, just send it in, the likelyhood that they'll deny you is very low.

Not to be saying I know everything, just giving what advice I can. I've been overclocking for about a year and a half now, and have never run into any trouble.

btw, I spent the time to tear my comp apart again, and I got my original 45C idle temp down to 32C idle, which is fine considering how much I have it overclocked. Never goes above 47 under maximum load. Under stress tests, 3DMark06, and Crysis "VERY HIGH SPEC."

I have a Pentium D 2.8GhZ, would my new VisionTek Radeon HD 3870 bottleneck it? Or should I probably get a Core 2 Duo for my birthday?
