I have a Pentium D 2.8GhZ, would my new VisionTek Radeon HD 3870 bottleneck it? Or should I probably get a Core 2 Duo for my birthday?

I don't know for sure. But because of how slow your cpu is, it might inhibit your new video card. If that processor can't deal with the information as fast as that card, then its pointless to have a card that good, because its being limited by the processors actual time to get information to the video card.
If you can, go for the C2D. Since you have Vista, it will already immensly improve your performance, and newer games should run even better with the threading technology, yet again, enhanced by Vista. Not to mention, there will be little chance of your new GPU being bottlenecked by it. E6750 is a good priced one, about $190, 2.66GHz. Where as the E6600, $230 runs at 2.4GHz. Dunno why the price jump for a slower cpu, but it overclocks well, so I'm not complaining.
Despite many's skepticism, I've had nothing but good results with my Core2Duo.

My two cards seem to be limited by my cpu right now, runs Crysis fine, but any physics or otherwise cripple it. Anything that calls for extra power consumption from my processor just kills my framerate. Thinking its time to step up to a quad core, or maybe look into that Ageia Physics card. Dunno anything about that, except its $120. But I'll look into it just for the hell of it.

Go for a new quad core, I found a $190 OEM quad core on tiger direct, 2.6 GhZ I think also. It was a very nice price.

Once I get some more money I'll probably go for a Core 2 Duo, I was thinking of the E6600 but now that you said there is a faster core clock for a cheaper model, I'll probably go with that one.

Yeah, I don't get the deal with the E6600 at 2.4GHz for $240 and the E6750 at 2.66GHz for $180. Only difference is the FSB.

I found these incredibly interesting computers. It's amazing what people do with free time. . .

Those are some awesome cases... If the FSB is the only thing that's different I'll go ahead and buy the E6750 when I get the money. Unless quad cores somehow come down in price by then.

EvoX, any update on your computer yet?

Leeroy, if you've got a way to build it, it would turn out better in the end to do it that way, through Newegg. Just be sure the parts are all compatible, work together etc(i.e. nothing limits/bottlenecks each other.)

Turns out. My friend cannot get ahold of a case. Anybody know of some good cases between $40-100. I want it to be good quality. Preferably not color oriented(I don't want something that has like a color theme thats stricktly one color. I can make alterations if it's subtle.) I'll ask him what color he'd be interested in. I'm just tired of looking around. Took me a bit to find the hardware. And now I've got to go back and make alterations to it to get it to fit in the budget with a 19-22" Widescreen LCD monitor and a mouse. So. . .

Much thanks. Never seen such a good looking case that didn't have an Acrylic window. I'll offer it to him. Thanks again. Smile

The hush has always looked really nice, I saw it on ibuypower a while ago.

About my comp samurai, I'm still waiting for my motherboard to come back from eVGA after the RMA, and also for my hard drives to come in. I'm expecting the guy to respond very very soon, as about a week ago, he said the hard drives would be at his place in 4 days, and that the motherboard was on it's way to eVGA.

Damn, thats really got to suck. I remember when I was forced off my computer for awhile. Didn't have the money to replace the parts. 500 F'ing dollars. I didn't think I could RMA them because they were physically damaged(Human error, I slipped. . .Sad.) Later, I realized I could have RMA'd them through EVGA, even though they were physically damaged. At least the video card. The mobo was an Asus. And I never got that registered for some reason. Anyway, it was when I RMA'd the beaten up 8800GTS, I got my second one back and I was up and running for SLI, so I thought. My PSU wasn't enough. Which really made me wonder why a 750W PSU couldn't handle it. But, I had my CPU, Memory, and GPU's OC'ed, so that may have been the issue. Dunno, but my 1KW psu is running my dual 8800GTS 640mb's strong now. Anyway, my point, was that I waited 4 months to grab the money, then for the parts. So, that was a very depressing time of my life. . . Not to mention, I didn't have a notebook like you do to at least do something. Sad So I know what the waiting must be like. At least, there probably won't be any annoying squealing noises! And you'll have your new gpu in right? New 750gb hdd, and the dual core eventually. Its all coming together. All I had to look forward to was the get the same damn thing, because everything else was too damn expensive. Sad

Anyway, hope it all gets done soon.
